Come

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.” NASB

In the last few months as I’ve had conversations with people I’ve been told by so many about how tired they are. They never can seem to find time for rest. In addition to that the continuous demand of social media and the ease of “connecting” gives people access to you 100% of the time.  How many times have you been with someone and the ding of their phone demands an instant response?  I’ve had conversations where I’ve been asked; “Hey, why didn’t you answer me the other day?’.  If you have children, bring work home with you, are dealing with an ailing parent, have church meetings, soccer practice, boy scout meetings, etc. it becomes a herculean task to carve out time to rest, relax, pray, or for some sleep. We are driven by technology. Before it was hard to find balance but our society has us on full throttle from the break of dawn to sundown.

I want to encourage you to take a minute and consider Matthew 11:28-30.  Jesus tells us to “Come to Him…”. Who is he talking to? To those who are weary and burdened. The Berean Literal Bible states: “Come to Me, all those toiling and being burdened, and I will give you rest.” The word come is not a sweet invitation from the Savior to come and sit at His feet.  It is a command.  The word Come is written as an imperative and expresses a command to the hearer to perform the action by the order and authority of the one commanding. Are you tired? Are you worn out? Do you identify with the saying: there’s no rest for the weary? Then COME!!!

Rest can be found by going boldly to the throne of grace.  You have to take back your life and become the captain of your own ship. You should set boundaries. When our priorities are out of order, we find that our schedules are out of control. The word of God tells us in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the kingdom of God. When you reprioritize by allowing God first place, everything else falls into place.  Taking His yoke is aligning yourself to His plans for your life.  The yoke represents allowing yourself to be connected to the One who can carry your load and in so doing, you enter His rest.  The word Take is also a command. So the Lord commands us to Come to Him, Take His Yoke and finally, we enter into rest.  All you have to do is set your affection on Him and you will enter the rest He promises you.  Are you ready to take back your life?
